I Have Heard Of Members Responding To The Station After Listening To SAAS Being Responded. That Would Mean That These People Were Already At The Station An As Soon As The Crew Was There Rescue Would Role, This Is Good In The Fact That The Truck Is Out Quick, But Also Prevents Other Firies Getting A Chance On Rescue, Because Someone Else Had The Heads Up And Would Always Be There First.

Who cares if people miss the truck because they have a fast crew. If i ever saw someone cracking the s---'s because they didnt make they truck i would seriously be questioning myself as to why they are a firee in the first place.

Awww poor diddums didnt make the truck, no problems at my station, 8 outa 10 times we can have both appliances out the door in 4 minutes and thats not pushing it.

By the way - What are other brigades response times like? Be honest, theres no way a rural brigade would raise a crew and be mobile in 2 minutes...

Mike

Its easy to get a truck out quick when everyone lives really close to the station.....

And to say that if people complain, why are they in the service!
Look at it from thier perspective.....

you join the service, do your BFF1 etc etc..... 12 months training..... and for the first 5 years of your fire fighting career you never get to go to a call......

Now if that was me after 2 years Id be wondering why I was wasting my time bothering. The fuel to go down to the station, the lost sleep. If I never get a chance to put my new found skills to practice then whats the point.

The jobs need to be shared around a bit.... keeps people interested.

....And as for listing to the scanner for the call... and then rushing to the station before the pager goes off.

1. Its not illegal to listen to a scanner.... it IS illegal to act on the information obtained.

2. It annoys the rest of the crew.

3. It doesnt look good for 1 person to go rushing to the station and then sitting there for however long it takes the pagers to go off.

And if the pagers dont go off..... then dont you feel/look like a dill!

in the end it doesnt save time responding.... cause you still have to wait for the rest of the crew to get there anyway. I know we dont suffer any delays when everyone gets there at the same time.... and everyone gets a fair go at getting on a call as well.

MATTE

Do any of your stations run duty crews? It works really well contrary to what most people believe.

fire03rescue

We duty drivers for Saturday nights, fire ban days and public holidays.
We have duty crews for events and use crewing system for different trucks.

No dramas.  8-)

Unfortunately its very hard to have people commit to these things when they are trying to run a farm. On fireban days, all available crew make themselves knows to the senior officer, and crewing numbers are passed onto group incase of shortfalls elsewhere.

mmm well if someone does send a heads up page or someone goes off something they saw who really cares, especially if it is a brigade in the hills and you live in the south east, what are you going to do drive up to that brigade and yell at them....

boys just keep turning the wheel.....

A sad day for several brigades as they loose their pumpers for 34P's!

Time to issue PPE with black arm bands  :x
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to control it.
