medevac, if an emergency resource is on scene, and they confirm NO entrapment, NO spillage, NO action required, why waste resources?  I know its not your fault (at least I don't think it is..) but it seems like a pretty stupid rule to me...

medevac

well... first off. how did the on scene resource arrive without fire and rescue being called at all? they should all be responded ASAP from time of original call by the call taking agency...

and besides, even if we get info like that per our SOPs we should be responding a rescue resource if we are attending... makes sense no matter which way ya look at it....

well im sure someone will disagree though...

My comment re: SES is more because MFS were on the way... I know SES are the gazetted Rescue resource for that area, but I still think it is a wasted resource once a Service was already on scene..

Yes, they should have been responded initially, as should have all the other services, but they weren't.. So why waste not only the services time, but more importantlly the vollunteers time when such details have already been ascertained?

to avoid having a RCR grievance lodged against them? dunno...

Would seem to me that it would be one of those time when common sense prevails... But.... I guess not....

Either way .. back to Ammusing pager messages... :)

I like the conspiracy theory proposed by Camo! :-)
The views I express are my own, and not necessarily of the service I represent!

F.B.R.T

Seriously though, the right thing is done by comms generally and all services are called out.

But on many occasions Police and SAAS arrive first and find no entrapments.

I know of many occasions there has been stops put through from Police SAAS or other services and it doesn't seem to happen!

That is probably the biggest gripe :?
The views I express are my own, and not necessarily of the service I represent!

medevac

mmm... but really we (fire service) dont take a stop unless a fire appliance is on scene....

maybe downgrade..... but in reality we are the ones trained to decide whether there is a need for our attendance, not the coppers or saas.

Correct, and I agree.. However... (there is always a catch..)...  SAPOL being the co-ordinating authority, technically we, by rights should take a stop call... / respond accordingly... - SAPOL advise no persons trapped.. Should be by rights only respond Fire coverage as they have given directive information informing us that no persons trapped, therefor rescue not required?  -  The job details stating no service would be required at all.. why send a truck?  .. more importantly.. Why would they tell us this?  information only?  Do they want a service yet strangely tell the operators that really a service is not required??

It seems to be a boundary that is very grey, and obviously uncrossed... I think the simplest thing is to continue what has been done before.. Assume the worst... Send everything untill someone says otherwise...

A total contradiction I know... But... It's all about covering ones a$$ in this day and age !

F.B.R.T

I see where your coming from but most ambo's and coppers wouldn't disconnect batteries or sort out oil or fuel leaks which is the fire services responsibility, but most of them would know if a patient is "trapped" in a vehicle.

Anyhow, might try to get back on topic!

Did you see on the paging site the other day a particular brigade informing it's members about a scout group coming to visit their station?

The final part of the message cheekily said "there might be female scouts coming....."

Wonder if that encouraged anymore of the stations lads to turn up! :-D

Someone should tell them they need to send the other brigade straight away not 24 mins later. They should have been responded the same time. What happened?  :|

Toast

Uh... they did? Well, atleast as one of each message went to the same group. I'd assume maybe Glossop didnt get their act together and it was a gentle suggestion to get to the station?

Mind you, we've had multiple pages for the same job from MFS / SHQ.

backburn

Well guess what NO Glossop did not get that page they only got the second one. I know for a fact they did not.

Darius

that repeated message you're talking about Toast went to Chaffey Group Officers.  It appears to be a stuffup at SHQ that Glossop were missed off the first page at 23:56.

CyberCitizen

We Have Had It Before Where The Pages Have Gone Off Saying More Information (About The Job) & We Were Like What The Cause We Were Never Called To A Job.  Turns Out The Inital Page Was Sent But They Forgot To Include Us In The Paging Group Even Though We Were In The Message.  Confirmed This By Checking The Pager Site After The Job.  It Was Lucky For The More Info Page Otherwise We Wouldn't Have Known.
