I wouldnt drive on that Alan, the 'solid' surface is only abaout 2cm thick.... turns to never ending sludge/silt after that!!

I did drive on that Mike.  Launching and retrieving.
The sand at Clayton Bay at the boat ramp & swimming beach (sunbaking area now) is quite solid. 
Definitely Not True for many/most other sections of the Lake's new "beaches" though.
