Long Plains silo rescue

Noticed on the GRN pager website that four CFS brigades(from memory), CFS Burnside and two teams from Tea Tree Gully SES responded to the vertical rescue recovery operation at the Long Plains silo yesterday.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200512/s1529604.htm gives some details and this incident will now be covered by a coroner's inquest.

A TV news (I think ABC) showed a short segment with people from both organisations working together.

I personally thought it was great to see both organisations working together.

Are they high angle rescue trained ?  Or confined space?

Thats all I could think of, maybe they needed crew trained in those areas.

not sure... would have though SES have vertical rescue resources available much closer... perhaps it was treated as HAZMAT risk with some kind of exposure to the dust generated by whatever was hosued in the silos... hmm there i go answering my own question, but still not sure.

HQ member told me Burnside are Confined Space rescue trained, and they went as they have all the appropriate gear on their Hazmat truck, and TTG SES went for the Vertical Rescue side of things.

I'm fairly sure Nuriootpa are also confined space and high angle trained/equipped for winery tank rescue. Would they have been closer?

Was at the station at the time this incident went down and burnside came up on our new scanner with SHQ talking about their atmospheric detection equipment!!

Would think that with the number of silo's in the mid north and around the state that there would be more CFS/SES resources trained in high angle/confined space rescue within the wheat growing regions of the state??
