Anyone able to confirm/deny rumour re: recent State Government approval for construction of MFS Station in Mount Barker?

CFS_Firey

I can confirm there's a rumour if that helps? :p

Monger

I saw an article in the local Mt BArker news that the fire service up there may become paid MFS?

Believe wheels were in motion to establish retained MFS in Mt Barker this year, but now not happening. Mt Barker will remain CFS for the "foreseeable future" is what I have heard. Couple reasons for this (that I have been told):
1) MFS didn't have enough funds available to build a new station in Mt Barker at this time due to other station replacement projects.
2) Retained MFS would provide no significant improvement in service delivery v's Volunteers as both rely on very similar systems i.e not full time staffing and similar response times.

Believe Mt Barker will soon lose their loan MFS Scanias, but not sure what their appliance line up will look like?

Interesting article in this weeks Courier...

Believe SAFECOM have very recently approved a retained MFS Station for Mt Barker... no timeframe, but sooner rather than later...

The latest COAC meeting minutes say it'll become SAMFS retained "this financial year", which doesn't leave long for it to happen.

The pumpers be due peeling the current stickers off shortly wouldn't they?

Sounds like Mt Barker MFS (retained service) should be in place by the end of this year.

Also hearing that Mt Barker CFS will continue to exist after MFS is in place, in one form or another. Initial rumours were that Mt Barker CFS would cease to exist once MFS was in place.

Not sure how many current CFS members will transition across to MFS???

Optimistic

I read in the state budget that they've allocated the funds now for a retained station in Mt Barker.
