I'm pretty sure the union was trying to lock up Pirie and the Mount for retained from here on in.

Yeah and then let them come to the city after 5 years having gone thru an easier recruitment process (due to sheer numbers).my guess is the delay is due to the guys seconded still have a couple years to go on their original 5yr secondment and things may be getting messy

They always said the retained staff will get scheiße canned for going through the "easy" process like you say. I don't think its much easier when you are competing against 40 firefighters who already have knowledge of the job. Still have to go through the same processes as everyone else and the Union looked carefully at the this.

The guys in the main group have to compete with 1000 plus people. Many of who have cfs or other fire service training.

The odds were certainly better through retained entry and I am thankful they opened it up for us retained. Hopefully we do not disappoint in the drill squad and can keep the door open for more retained to follow.

Hopefully it solves the fulltime regional staffing problems and doesnt become a side door for a change to metro for these retained guys

Like it has done in previous intakes!
Not a hope.
Dilute the standard, GOOD work, Yellow wearing gong beaters will be lining up next!!!

Most of the retained staff who went for the job that i know were only planning on going for regional full time and the ones who wanted to go to Adelaide applied for both positions. I don't think anyone intended on trying to get in through the back door.

Footy42

I was offered a position through the retain process and I have no ambition to move to Metro after 5yrs.

I'd hate to find out that the retained guys didn't have to do the same testing as the 'civillian' applicants.

That's like double dipping. How does that work applying for both? You have contradicted yourself and just pointed out that it actually is a way to get through the back door.

They did same testing. But got to sit same aptitude test twice. Once for metro and once for regional.

Same recruitment proccess. Only one shot at each part regardless of applying for both entries.

hmm, back to the us and them debate. This is the point where I stop posting. All the best for the future everyone and thanks for the fantastic advice on recruitment.

I'm with you Bull. Flyonthewall I'm saying the retains that wanted to go full time in Metro went for the same process as everyone else did. They had to apply for both positions as the retained for regional was only for regional. Both same process. If you get through both then you have to choose what you are going to do.

Hi everyone... just thought I'd give this topic a bump.

Has anybody heard anything about Squad #2? I know that the first squad is almost halfway through their course, and I'm pretty hopeful that the second squad will start straight after the first one finishes as previously speculated. Anyone have any ideas about this?

bolts

People in the second squad got a phone call on Friday advising them of their start date, which I think is Sep 14th

Notts

Firstly well done to all those who got picked for the 1st Drill Squad. Great effort. Nearly done guys, hope you've gotten through it okay.

I made it down to the 70odd to be interviewed, and then received a "keep fit" letter after interviewing. Not sure where this leaves me now. I had high hopes to receive some sort of communication for the 2nd Drill Squad in Sept, but bolts' post below seems to throw that theory out too.

Those who received this phone call - were you on the "keep fit" list after interviews? Or were there other types of letters after interview? ie. standby for the possibility of a 2nd Drill Squad?

Fingers crossed for a Jan 2016 Squad.

The guys in the 2nd squad got an intivation to do the Pat 2 letter after the interviews. They did the Pat 2 at the same time as the squad 1 guys.
35 did it, 12 went into squad 1 (with retains bringing that number up to 18) and the next 18 ranked make up squad 2 starting in Sept.

Mosquito79

So the first drill squad of 2015 graduate today and the second squad start their 14 week stint Monday. It will be great to have another influx of new faces in the MFS.

Still haven't heard any whether or not a third squad will go ahead... Were there enough retirements at the EOFY to cover another 18 recruits? If there is a third squad from this recruitment drive rumour is it wont begin until late Feb/early March.

Can confirm that there will be a 3rd squad starting on the 22nd Feb. Pretty sure that the people being considered have already been notified. Will be taken out of the people who have already been interviewed but they will have to do the PAT 1 again as it has been a long time since they did it the first time.

Mosquito79

How many from the interviews were left over after the first two drill squads?

So pretty much everyone is gonna get a job based on a half baked psych test?
