I heard there will be 2 drill squads to start with. The second one starting 6 weeks after the first.
Do you think the retains will find out first or the same time as the rest?

Retained would be in the first squad and would already know, so one would think.

Definitely 2 squads, most likely one straight after the other, not much gap between.

Third squad?

If 7news is anything to go by, second recruit course starts September 14, With applicants informed today (allegedly including Kane Cornes).

Pretty sure Cornes is in first squad starting on June 9, why would retains be in first squad? Would depend on when the regional positions become vacant i would think

Regardless of when Cornes is starting they confirmed there will be two squads this year. They also mentioned would be a few years before next recruitment. Third squad looks unlikely?

I wouldn't believe everything you hear on the news. Those who undertook the recent PAT 2 testing were allegedly told their ranking and the likelihood of a second squad.

It will be a few years before they start the process from the very start again with the PAT 1 and aptitude and personality profiling. HR have been asked to have applicants ready if/when future drill squads are required. Hence the 25 or so can ranked from the interviews and the other 400 in a pool after the personality profiling. Future recruitment depends entirely on staffing requirements. If they require more operational firefighters within the next 18 months it will likely come from the existing pool. If it's in 2 or 3 years  the process will likely begin again. 30 firefighters (with 6 of those going to full time regional stations) barely covers an operational firefighter for each station for more than one shift.

There are only 18 people that can go through a 14 week drill squad in any one time. Which means a third squad is at best 30 weeks away. There's no value in committing people to a third course now that at the earliest won't run until January 2016. The cost of conducting the new style recruit selection is significant and if circumstances allow I would expect at least one more squad would come from this batch.

They already have a heap of retirements this year so i would think the two squads would be soaked up there.
I doubt it will be a few years before next campaign, There is more fireys over 60yrs old then under 30.

The current recruitment style is almost identical to the one they have used for the past 8 years. If anything it would be cheaper having a much smaller personality profiling section

Sorry.. I was talking about the new personality profiling process which appears to be much more selective. Think the cost to run it through whatever company is more than previous. They may well interview out of the 400 if there are future squads next year but I don't think they will start from scratch if there are squads in 2016.

There was talk the retains would be part of the first squad and there already is a short full at the regional stations with more to come.

I'm pretty sure the union was trying to lock up Pirie and the Mount for retained from here on in.

Retains haven't heard yet!

Wow, if this is the case, I think it's a bit rough to let the general entry guys know a week or two after pat 2 and let retained guys sweat it out for 6 + weeks waiting for news. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Hopefully they can get it sorted out. It would be a shame for some 'once in a lifetime' job opportunities to go begging because it all got too hard. I hope you hear back soon footy42 if I can read between the lines correctly ;-) .

Gday Lads,

I can't say and don't know a lot about the recruitment process. That being said, I received an offer of employment this week. Just wanted to quickly acknowledge and thank everyone who contributes to this forum. A lot of rumours are thrown around but it's always good to hear the opinions of like-minded people who are clearly very passionate. I wish you all the very best for the future!

Thanks again.
