Delays Between Emergency Services

Whilst this is from NSW it appears to have a number of similarities with the delays I have seen with responding any rescue/fire appliance to an RCR when SAAS have been responded. I can only hope that SA can get their system sorted out.

So we decided to wait around just in case we were called to it, we heard SAAS turn up (If I'm correct around 4 Ambo's turned up).

Really?? If it had already been reported and the ambos called why would they need to

I agree, if we had someone report to us that there had been a VA down the road at that speed i wouldnt have hesitated responding to investigate, if you arent required on arrival so be it, but if you are then you probably just saved yourself a good deal of time waiting to be called.

An incident reported direct to a manned fire station is no different to a 000 call.
Of course they should have acted.

Yet other people provide criticism for 'self responding' crews to incidents.

Personally I would have responded a vehicle to provide first aid & incident protection.

Would you notify Adelaide Fire or Group DO ?

Of course you would notify ADLFIRE to inform them that you have just been notified (verbally) of an incident (they may not have it logged yet due to the normal delay between SAAS and ADLFIRE) More importantly they can then book you to the job in SACAD.

Theres a MAJOR difference to responding to an incident at initial report, and inserting yourself into a known, going incident.

Even ambos, who have strict dispatch protocols would self respond to incidents reported to them.

When said parent mentioned this to me, I asked the most Senior person at the station at that time if we should go check it out, yet he said we should wait for a page. There was nothing I could do. We also only had 3 members at station, and 5 cadets.
This instruction was furthered again when a LT arrived to be our 34 driver for Cadet Training.

Your specific situation is different. You also has duty of care responsibilities over the cadets, which is why I would hazard a guess for why the decision was made not to respond (short crewed) and leave the cadets unsupervised in the station.

If someone reported it to a fire station asking for help then yes, notify Adelaide fire and get appropriate resources responded but if someone tells you about an already reported incident that other emergency services are attending it's not really up to us to tell them if they need us.. 99% of the time if the operator thinks we are required well then we get paged and most times its in a fairly reasonable timeframe

Raven already stated that the parent said the crash only just happened.
And that they later heard SAAS arriving.
Entirely reasonable to immediately check if AdFire had already received a report.
Or not.
Only takes a phone call...
