Thermal Imaging Camera
« on: March 02, 2012, 11:59:45 AM »
Hi all,
I'm after some info on Thermal Imaging Camera's. Looking at getting one (thru a grant). Can anyone give me some info on what model is best used within CFS and any other info.
Thanks.

Make you sure you get the approval of your region before even considering applying for the grant to buy one as i would assume they are NOT standard stowage. Let us know how you get on.

As has already been said, get the approval from your Region first. My brigade purchased an Argus 4 which is the same model that the CFS & MFS use. It is a good unit and easy to use, also all the risk assessments and approvals for use have already been done.

I'm not a huge fan of the Argus 4, but at the same time, it's a TIC and you'd rather have a mediocre TIC than not one at all.

If you can try and get an in-truck charging system. Yes its more money, but it ensure that the TIC is ready to go anytime. Not to mention, get it mounted either in the cab or in the CABA locker.
To think they employed me as a drooling retard...

I'm looking at the Infrasys E380 with TAC grip 3. Comes in a hard case. MFS have just bought 5, so hopefully this will be on the right track to what would be good.

Where have the MFS these cameras? Are you sure?

They've ordered them...they don't physically have them yet.
Yes I'm sure. The info came direct from the supplier (where I am also looking at purchasing thru).

Not only did they win it but i also believe through another scheme they actually won the funding for a second one for their group..

On a side note we also purchased the Infrasys E380 for our brigade, an amazing bit of kit, great camera.

So you'd recommend it to other brigades?  What was the price tag?

Definitely recommend it, its basically a high definition camera, it came with a case, lanyard, spare battery and charger. we also got the optional hand grip which has a laser pointer in it which is very handy..
Because we couldnt tag onto a bulk order i believe we paid 11-12k for it.

If you want a look at one your more than welcome to come down here otherwise i know region has one kicking around that is the same model.

Surprised no one has mentioned anything about the cheap TIC's on offer from PacFire at the moment.

I think a number of brigades and groups in Region One are grabbing them. There are Argus and the new Flir - K series available.

Prices are very good.

I believe our Group has four on order, should be here in the next couple of weeks I think.

Just wondering are all these region approved equipment and allowed as non standard stowage?

For our brigade it was approved.

Well Region are putting together the purchase order on behalf of the Brigades and Groups, so I guess that means they approve.

We are playing around with the Drager UCF-9000 at the moment, this is the on that the CFA and MFB just replaced all their TIC's with. Any brigades in S.A. using one ?

Hi all,

Yes, we were successful in getting a grant for the TIC. We went with the Infrasys E380. A great camera with tactical handle for laser pointing and photo/video recording. The screen resolution is great and can be seen easily in full sunlight. Tacked onto a Regional order or about $13k.
We also won the People's choice award where our funding was doubled so we got another camera to compliment the Region. This also gave us an opportunity to promote our brigade and the CFS with a promo video used by SGIC.
As per policies, yes, all equipment was approved.
Very happy with the camera and we have used it heaps since we received it.

You probably don't need a TIC to see where the hot bits are, but it looked pretty good on the Drager UCF-9000.
