Thursday, 30 September 2010 I am pleased to announce the appointment of a new Chief Officer for CFA.

Euan Ferguson, who is the current CEO and CO of the South Australian Country Fire Service, will return home to Victoria to take up the position of CFA Chief Officer in mid November.

Euan brings nine years of experience in SA to the role along with his time as Acting CO and Deputy CO with CFA before that. Euan also worked in the natural resources portfolio earlier in his career.

His appointment follows a national and international recruitment search and is a significant one for CFA as we work with other agencies to implement Royal Commission recommendations.

Euan is a nationally respected emergency management leader and will provide a high level of executive capacity and leadership for CFA its people and stakeholders.

He has been responsible for South Australia's fire operations, planning, preparedness and response for almost a decade and has built up a wealth of experience during that time.

Prior to being appointed Chief Officer in SA, Euan spent eight years working for CFA in a number of positions including Acting Chief Officer, Deputy Chief Officer and Operations Manager and he has a strong understanding of the reliance on community based volunteer fire brigades in both the SA and Victorian setting.

I look forward to Euan being on deck and am immensely thankful for all the efforts of our current CO Steve Warrington.

didnt think the mass staff exodus would start at the top! Hello CHAOS!!

Darren

Why wouldn't he leave, better wage, better service, more money to spend on the things he needs to do, makes sense.

misterteddy

all the jokes from the last few years aside......congratulations to Euan on an excellent job navigating the crap-fight here over the last few years. The service as a whole is much better off than when you arrived, which is all you can ever ask of a Chief. Good luck to you in Victoria, it's certainly the plumb non-metro (ish) job in Australia.

Your shout when we come over for the next strike team

If it follows to form....then the TFS head must be heading here :)

Pity im in Germany may have put my hat in the ring and by god would there ba some changes then... :-D

SAAS and SAMFS replaced their bosses in the last 5 years.....guess that just leaves Mal Hyde to pull the pin.

Something I  think 4000 odd coppers wouldn't mind seeing.....

Darren

SAMFS couldn't really help it, the Chief passed away !

A link to the story on Adelaide now confirming his move.  It is a sad day to see him go, a well respected leader, his shoes will be difficult to fill.
Always enjoyed the look on new firies faces after they were told who he was, after shaking his hand whilst at a staging area or similar of a large fire.
Thanks Euan, best of luck in Victoria.

Subject:    RESIGNATION AS CFS CHIEF OFFICER
Date:    Thu, 30 Sep 2010 17:25:29 +0930
From:    Ferguson, Euan (CFS) <Ferguson.Euan@cfs.sa.gov.au>

Dear friends and colleagues,

After much discussion, deep thought and deliberation, I have tendered my resignation as Chief Officer of the SA Country Fire Service.  I have accepted an offer to be the next Chief Officer of the Country Fire Authority in Victoria.

My last day with CFS will be 12 November.  I start at CFA on 15 November.  In the mean time, we will continue to work together to prepare for the next fire season and to build a firm foundation for a new CFS Chief Officer to take over the reigns.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Regards, Euan

Euan Ferguson AFSM
Chief Officer
SA Country Fire Service

Its a great shame really...Outside the office he was just another volunteer firey looking to help out where he could! Maybe he can give the government a razz up as he leaves us?

it's never the right time to take on a new job for the place you are leaving.

Take the opportunities when they present.

What a great thing, for both Euan and CFS. Euan has lead and steered CFS for a number of years, fought many fights with government, got CFS monies when government was reducing and focused CFS forward .... his job just as those before him is done ..... Stuart Ellis et all.
Now a new Chief can have a go to continue to push CFS forward, giving CFS new direction and new opportunities, just as Euan will give that to CFA.
All the best Euan ..... at least you wont have far to go to watch Geelong play footy now!
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the ability to control it.
