Our client, the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) is a highly renowned professional, disciplined and skilled service which prevents, controls and suppresses fires in the country, protects life and deals with other emergencies occurring throughout regional SA through its volunteer and paid workforce.
The rare opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, innovative and proven senior executive to continue the highly successful work of the CFS as Chief Officer. Reporting through the SAFECOM Board, the Chief Officer provides advice to the Minister for Emergency Services on bushfire related matters. The appointee will take responsibility for the ultimate delivery of the CFS’ legislative responsibilities in accordance with the Fire and Emergency Services Act; and will oversee CFS operations, strategic management and administration of resources – with the key objective of ensuring effective and efficient service delivery to South Australian communities through staff and volunteers. We are seeking:
• Inspirational and honest leadership with a transparent approach
• Outstanding interpersonal communication skills in speech and writing
• The ability to engage with the community at all levels, including the essential volunteer team; and to respond sensitively to complex matters
• Excellent commercial acumen, pragmatism and political nous
• Complex problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Proven performance in dealing with budgets, strategic plans, policies and strategies, major projects and stakeholder relations, including Government
• Calmness under the pressure of emergencies and tight deadlines
Extensive intrastate travel and out of hours work commitment will be required. An excellent remuneration package will be negotiated with the appointee.
