REPEAT BLAZE AT ANDAMOOKA AREA SCHOOL
8:30 AM 2 March 2006
Fire has caused more than half a million dollars damage to the Andamooka Area School in the state’s north overnight.
It is the second fire at the school in as many months, and the third in the past year.
The blaze started soon after 12.30am today and destroyed a shed and a temporary building used for teaching art and craft.
About 20 SA Country Fire Service volunteer firefighters from the Andamooka and Roxby Downs Brigades responded with some wearing breathing apparatus as they battled to control the blaze for nearly an hour.
CFS crews were successful in protecting a neighbouring property and a power plant.
Firefighters remained at the scene for most of the night to fully extinguish the fire and salvage any undamaged property.
The fire that occurred earlier this year on 18 January quickly took hold of the administrative block, including the Principals Office, and a newly refurbished computer room.
Fire Cause Investigators will arrive at the school later this morning to determine how the blaze started.
SA Police is assisting the investigation.
poor guys, they can't catch a break. I feel really sorry for them.
