Swine flu pandemic
« on: April 30, 2009, 11:53:50 AM »
It seems Swine Flu (SF) starting to ramp up in the world and the World Health Organisation (WHO) has upgraded it to level 5, what this means for Australia has yet to be revealed.
So is this a media beat up?
CFS are having a teleconference today 30/4/09 to discuss this as well as other things, will there be a directive for volunteers or just your generic health warning?
Will we all end up wearing surgical masks? if so I'm going for a single white cotton glove Michael Jackson style as well!
If you are unfortunate enough to contract SF will you exhibit normal flu like symptons runny nose and a cough that has you barking like a dog or will you end up squeeling like a pig?
Is there a higher WHO grade than 5 and if so when its asked for will there be some Scottish gitt somewhere mumbling to himself "she no take it cappan, these grades were neva desinned to go to warp factor 8"?

Thoughts?....................other than Jaff your Ritalin dose is overdue!

We're all going to die.  It's inevitable. :-(

(And if you were being serious with the WHO levels, its a scale of 1-6, so warp factor 8 sadly can't happen).

it's okay...I've got it on good authority that all firefighters won't be susceptible to swine flu...

....because it can't be contracted by turkeys!

Maybe a higher level of preparedness?

meh...avian bird flu....

look at what happened with that....SFA

pig flu will overall kill less people than the conventional strains of flu that already happen each year will kill........

seriously - pig flu - another beat up so the mates of the WHO (who happen to own shares in all the drug companies) can make some cash......

agree entirely....the biggest media beat up since avian flu, equine flu, mad cow disease and any other form of mutant animal malaise....

so, theres 146 or so cases of confirmed cases of piggy pox in the known world of some several gazillion people.....bfd. In April 2007 there were 3,679 cases of Type A Influenza detected in Australia - a WHO crisis?, worthy of DEFCON State Yellow?....hardly. Just wait till you have the ambulance chasing tosspots out there flogging N95 Masks at $40 a throw...it will happen. Cant we have some children thrown off a refugee boat or a Minister with a heavy right foot back in the news for something really newsworthy

Right...i'm off to stock up on supplies of N95s to fund my overseas trip to Mexico

Interview tonight on ABC 7:30 report was interesting.

In 1918, the first round of Spanish Flu was deemed insignificant.
It was the mutated second wave in 1919 that killed around 100 million people.
But that was only around 2% of the people who contracted it.
(4 years of European Unification Negotiations: Session # 379 only killed
about a quarter that many).

infectious outsiders away...  Medieval Europe & the Black Death meets 21st
century Oz.   :-D

CFS Firey are you sure that 6 is as far as it goes, 6 is so......so lame, its just not scarey at all. The WHO need a decent shakeup, a makeover, maybe have Stephen King give their levels a going over at least have 10= imminent cataclysmic event and have Vincent Price be their voice over guy signing off with his trademark "Thriller" maniacal laugh, that might get the streets running brown!

and in breaking news.......

winnie the pooh and his friends Tigger and Eeyore have been found not guilty of the murder of piglet - the judge found in favour of their argument that the sneeze he'd had for two weeks was justification enough for "putting him to sleep"

a lion, a bear and a pig are sitting around discussing how hard they each are.

the lion says ...."when i roar the whole jungle shakes"

the bear says...."when i roar the whole forest trembles"

"so what" says the pig, "all i have to do is sneeze and the whole world $h1t's itself !
