I would just like to take a moment to publicly congratulate all the people who have been accepted into the SAMFS this year.

Good work, Guys.

Any ideas when they are next advertising ?

Firefrog

My Understanding is that SAMFS may take enough people for 2 and maybe 3 intakes from this years applicants. Which I have been told may mean no more recruiting until 2007.

You're right I believe they've taken 54 recruit for 3 intakes of 18. My brother got in and has got a spot at Pt Pirie! He starts on the 5th of September.

Good luck to anyone else who got in!

pt pirie... hmmm well thers an interesting station to be posted at.

last time i got info on the station (my brother, a paramedic, and his fiance are both retainees):
one full-time crew in station 24/7
retainees respond to station for fire-calls

only station like it in south australia..

JamesGar

As a full timer I think they've got a good roster of a 24 hour shift then 3 days off! Not bad I think, as long as you're not too busy on the shift!

I thought Full Time METS shifts were  2days, 2 nights and 4 days off ???

pt piries a strange one, as james said, they do a 24hr shift, then get the next 3 days off... they are one of the quieter stations, even more so than pt augusta, but remain "fulltime", becaus eof the Pazminco Co. Smelters (at least i think that is what they are called)...

i think the way they get away with having the crews on such klong shifts is due to the retainees, available 24/7..

by running the station like this, they can get away with having only about 16(possibly less) full timers in pirie.

probie_boy

yeah piries a bizarre one. you'd think there'd just be retaineds there. :?

PF_

It would suck to get posted out to Pirie.  WOnder how many people transfer out of there.

strikeathird

I know a couple of retainees at Pirie..

probie_boy

now you've done it P F! bagging strikeathirds buds!

PF_

Retained is okay, but full time would suck.

way to revive a 8 month old thread...

Why do people have issues with old thread's being revived.  Its happened before, I dont see the problem with it.  Its not like the die when they get past page2. :-P

It's actually really good, shows people are reading and looking deeper into the discussion that's past.
It's also because the search function will pull up old threads, which new people may want to discuss further..... :-D
