stowage of road cones on rural 24

There is a belief in my brigade (or perhaps it's just one vocal member) that the orange road cones cannot be stored on the pole next to the rear crew deck on our rural 24 appliance as they "blow off when you go on the highway".  Yet I see every other brigade with a rural 24 going around with them stored there apparently without problems.

Here's a pic of the type of pole I'm referring to:

I would like to store at least a couple there for them to be easily chucked overboard to mark a driveway or access gate on the way through.  Presently ours have to be stored between the mudflaps and chains by the rear wheels.

Has anyone had this actually happen or is it an old wifes/firies tale?

piece of small rope around them does the job keeps them from blowing off

There should be a plastic covered cable bolted to the base of the cone holder with a loop on the other end that goes over the top cone.  Does your appliance have that?

Darius

no - am not aware of it ever having that, and have never noticed such a cable on our neighbours 24's either but will have a closer look now.  Sounds like another thing to go on the list to retrofit.

Simple enough to make one yourselves..... :)

Elastic Cord's and two hooks ;)   high tension :)

We always had a strap on our 24, which is now at Littlehampton, never ever had an issue with cones falling off.

Shiner

I don't reckon the truck could go fast enough for them to flip off......

Howdy,

Not wanting to complicate things even further for you Darius, but i recall a few years back Dr Paix in his research into burn-over saying something about not wanting large amounts of flammable plastic stowed near the crew haven in the case of a burn-over?? Not sure if this helps.
