New GRN Radios

Here are a couple of photos of the new GRN Radios being installed.

One downside that can be seen is the location of the Emergency button which is in an easy spot to press when you are sliding the GRN back into its holder 

I have found them relatively easy to use so far.

-Mode Up & Down, as well as left/right navigation keys change the talkgroup up/down
-Press & hold home and it goes to State 111. We are looking at setting this for the main talkgroup that this particular radio monitors (103)
-When you hit 'Chan', type in the talkgroup then press the home symbol.

-Emergency button in the middle
-Power button
-Blue button is disabled
-PTT button
-Button underneath PTT will change the brightness. Off-Bright-Dull.
-Last button is disabled

Where is the main body of the radio ? I assume it in under the front seat ?
Because all of the controls are in the mike/remote head, does this make it heavier ?
Do you still have a seperate speaker mounted ?

The main body is located under the dash next to the centre console of the vehicle.

It is a little heavier but as all the controls, including a clear screen on the hand piece, it is a lot more user friendly.

Do you still have a seperate speaker mounted ?

Yes, there is a separate speaker located in the vehicle. Will look tommorow on its actual location.

the hair trigger emergency button is a handy tool...especially when you're trying to turn the radio off in the dark.......

Or get them disconnected - thats what other services have done.

'home' by convention always goes to state 111 so that won't be changed however there should be between 1 and 3 user-programmable buttons to preset your common talkgroups. I have played a fair bit with the new XTS2500 portables (which are very good) but only had a quick play with this XTL5000.

the 'home' button also operates as like and 'enter' or 'action' button now (in motorola usage)

I take it this came in a new command/logistics car? (looks like a navara from your photos?)

For those that haven't heard, all new appliances/cars now come with the new radios, an XTL5000 (as shown here) in command/logistics cars and the XTL2500 in trucks. The state training centre guys are putting together some basic training on them but really it's very simple. Motorola are changing to making their radios look and function more like mobile phones (just have a look at 'The Bill' these days).

Yes Darius, it came in a new Logistics vehicle (Nissan Navara).

They are a similar looking handset to those that are used in Police Cars.....all your functions on the one handset....

After another look at the location of the radio, the main body is under each front seats, with the two speakers being underneath the centre console.

are they a digital radio?? or still analog??

Both id assume..to work with the current network setup.

both analogue and digital on the current SAGRN and they also do P25 digital.  Motorola haven't made analogue-only gear for some years now.
