A HELICOPTER has crashed after hitting power lines in a paddock near Murray Bridge, with three people injured.

Police and emergency services are at the crash site , 8kms from Murray Bridge, near Wagenknecht Rd and Woolshed Rd.

The pilot is understood to have been thrown clear from the wreckage while another person is trapped underneath the helicopter and another person is trapped inside.

One of those trapped has suffered chest injuries and is unconscious while the other person is conscious and speaking to paramedics.

The helicopter is understood to have been conducting power line inspections for ETSA Utilities.

A rescue helicopter is flying to the scene from Adelaide with a specialist paramedic retrieval team.

A crane also is being sent to the site to lift the helicopter off the trapped person.

The third person, understood to be the pilot, is mobile and has suffered only minor injuries.

I would hope that some responses to the incident must have been completed via a different method than pager. Because it is interesting that the AdelaideNow website posted time for the report, is 1 minute after the first pager message has been sent !!!

I'm not sure what is the big issue with people getting access to the GRN paging system. Certainly theres an issue of personal privacy, but seeing as everyone knows (or should) that pages can be read by the world.....then we have seen instances of identifiable information dramatically reduce over the years.

As for getting timely information for the news media....I think its actually a great idea. If we can improve the information flow to the public like that, then a better informed populis is in everyones interest (with the above qualifying exceptions).

Fully agree.... if the general public knows about the incident, hopefully they will avoid it...some will go 'for a look' which could cause additional issues..

My comment was not a complaint, just a comment.

Reckon it must be a slow news day, within an hour, there were three media helicopters on the ground along with half a dozen media cars as well as the Rescue helicopter airlifting the two trapped occupants...

Could of been a lot worse had there been a fire on impact especially if the paddock had had more than the very small amount of stubble that it had.

Slow news day???

An air crash is something i would consider a fairly major incident. Especially considering one person was trapped for a reasonable length of time and now has critical injuries....

We had a news chopper land at a fatal last month 10 minutes after we were paged to the job, they even beat the second ambulance on scene, never seen them there so quick.

You may notice that the initial page went to mfs.  Hence it was probably categorised to mfs in crimson.
