Have they had a chance to use the monitor in anger?

mpcfs

The manufacturer's should have thought it through so the monitor can stay permanently fixed to the appliance, instead of hooking up evey time you want to use it. I'm told they have never had to use it but very impressive to see it working. Hay shed fires just point and sit back (providing you have a large water tanker behind you. :-)

Bagyassfirey

you Could pour all the water u want on a hay shed fire through that monitor and still be wasting ya time. looks dam impressive tho

safireservice

Would be good for asset protection, just sit back and relax.  :-)
Treat everyone as if they are an idiot, until they prove you otherwise.

Did someone say how far does it go....

Hmmm

A) Its not a permanent fixture.
B) It's 38mm.

Sounds like the CFS appliance design team are right on the money again...

What makes this monitor different, is that it's remote controlled - supposedly so you could do more, with less crew.  I don't think it was supposed to be used as a monitor, as much as a robot branch man...

Yeah, I know the old girl is remote controlled, no doubt another case of way too much cash output for a tiny, if noticable gain. I do remember the old threads and the "What? Are CFS trying to let them turnout with less than 4 crew?"

*sigh*

Zippy

lol..so its remote control monitors versus good recruitment strategies. ;)

Apparently the pump was set at 750kpa at the morph cfs equipment day when I spoke to the crew, so it would still have a bit of grunt left if required. If you had fairly flat ground that monitor would be good for a running grassy, not to mention any cars that cut in front you going to a incident. :-D

I would filtered well hope so! Unless those boys only ever run 15m lengths of 38mm hose!

At least they are trying new things. I know it did take a while for it to be put on  the run but innovation is needed.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the PTO pump on that truck? is it good and reasonable for CFS appliances?

Pipster

I think you will find that a monitor permanently on the front faces a few issues under the Road Traffic Act....

The Monitor was also set up as a trial - which is why there was only one...it may prove to be very useful, or it may not.

At least they are trying something new...

There are three types of people in the world.  Those that watch things happen, those who make things happen, and those who wonder what happened.

IT would have been part of CFS spec's not SEM to have it there,CFA are now doing the same on some of their new tankers in areas where there low crew numbers....

Cameron Yelland

Ok granted it may prove useful on the round up of running grass fires with low crew numbers but they still have to get off and mop up, which requires a minimum of 3 people, which is the minimum you need for a running grass fire attack but is then against SOP's or COSO's or OMG's or Whatever!

Get of the truck and mopp up,   WHAT YA TALKING ABOUT CAM????  Some brigade's would just not do that unless the groupies stopped the truck and dragged them of the truck to do it......

Alan J

Could be useful if Dalkieth operate an airstrip...
Hmmmm..... might be a good idea to get something like it for our 34.
Never know when a stray 767 might try to set down on the bomber strip.

Running grassie attack? Can do with two! One driving, one on the hose! Mopping up? Can do with one! Just drive, stop, engage pump, squirt water, run back to pump, drive on, stop, engage pump.... ;)

OHSW will not allow one member to do that you will need to have another member so as to make sure your safe and dont get hurt....Look the COSO can have what ever it wants they are only guidlines and in some cases you would never get a full crew in  a rural area or in some cases a urban area. My understanding of the set up on the Dalkeith34p was to look at what a driver and one other member could do with that set up and also to help with crewing level's...The set up looks good I have not seen it action only the photos....

bittenyakka

I thought we had established that always getting 4 crew was dreaming.

Zippy
