I would say saas is choppering crew there???

It's a pity they didn't think of us along with the local saas, meningie can't get there without crossing the coorong, kingston have a 100+km run up the beach and we can drive to the mouth get boated across and the local cocklers have a few 4wds sitting on that side of the beach we could use to get there.

But SAAS SAPOL MFS Comms don't know that

Oh well thats the way the cookie crumbles.

A CAR rollover has claimed the life of a person in the state's South-East.

The car is believed to have been travelling along the beach at Meningie about 15km South-West of the Murray Mouth, when the driver lost control of the car about 11pm.

Police and other emergency services were on their way to the crash site at 11.30pm.

Major Crash investigators will examine the scene overnight.


....ya dont get small "bingle" mva's in that area unfortunately, somewhat like the Dukes Hwy it has a reputation that it claims lives.

There was also a MVA on the beach down Kingston way on Saturday night in the sand dunes,not sure of the full details but SES from Kingston did attend...

They should force every SAAS unit in the state to be rostered 24/7...it might seem unfair but when you need them YOU NEED THEM....

Do you really think they are going to put paid staff in every location???
I don't think so, they are relying on volunteers in so many locations and some places can only cover so many shifts in a week then paid staff or vollies from other towns are covering them for the rest of the time

With the information that was called into SAAS I guess the comms staff went on what information they had,Not sure if Kingston SES have their rescue boat yet but I take it that is why they where paged....I am sure Adam may be able to fill us all in......

Hi all,
very difficult job in more ways than one.
Kingston SES were default for Meningie SES, were later stopped called after receiving updated info.
The story changed quiet a few times with this job as the people involved were uncontacable due to their location (and SAAS could not provide us with caller details!! - go figure).
SAAS first response crew from Salt Creek were initial responders along with SAAS Meningie. The location of the incident meant that SAAS first respone crew, travelling with CFS Command car would have been a 3 hour drive, that's only when they hit the beach. Updated info meant that Rescue 51 was diverted from intial call (civilians transported patient to another location) to where the incident actually occured. Rescue 51 set down and flew out before any ground crews could reach the incident. Major crash flew in the next morning.
The joys of responding to a remote area with limited info.

I think that Kingston SE SES will get the existing Pt Lincoln SES boat when it is replaced. This means no rescue boat currently exists between the Murray Mouth and the upper south east.

My information could be old though....

This particular job was on the beach (ocean) side of the Coorong so a rescue boat would have been no use.
Finding a spot to launch a boat around these parts is non existent. The lowerlakes and Coorong are so dry that we rely on fisherman who have their boats launched and permanently moored in the lakes/Coorong, about 1km from shore. A long walk to get to your boat carrying rescue equipment.

Perhaps out of this tragic circumstance all the ESO's could possibly get together and devise a response plan for that particular stretch of coastline and it could become a primary air lift medical and rescue response??

What does everyone else think of this??

mmm good idea,  maybe even some sort of access control to the area would work to prevent this happen at an odd time of the night, let alone any time.

The problem is it's a national park and is a looong drive to get in and out and the restriction just wouldn't work.

We've done a few jobs over the beach, none that far towards the mouth tho. Chopper is always responded. No other way to do the job in the shortest and safest possible time.
