Hooligan Tools will break if you use the wrong hooligan tool. They have a few different designs.Any tool will break if not use correctly.
The PRO-BAR HALLIGAN is used by FDNY, you can get other types of hooligan tools I think the model is SPF which has different features.
You will find that the end is different one is used for cutting metal, the other is used for leverage.

Yep, so in short, don't use a Hooligan tool (as pictured above) for entry. They are a lightweight RCR tool. A proper Halligan tool(below), is a single piece of drop forged metal, that is very hard to break and there isn't really a 'wrong' way to use it...

Spot on, we carry a Paratech Hooligan and a Probar Halligan. Seriously guys go out and get a decent Halligan, once you've had a play with one on some doors you won't look back.

Finally a thread without all the crap and some good info.

so far....

for anyone interested, heres a "training video" made by some americans... not sure how useful some will find it, however it demonstrates some of the theory quite well. [cant remember if i posted this somewhere else at some point.

Katrina

And let's put in for one on all the trucks I'm sure they'll give them to us all :-D

I can't remember how much FARA had their Pro-Bar for but I think it was around $400?

You can pick up a standard 30" Halligan for around AU$250 from online suppliers. Halligans with other bits and pieces can cost more, there are longer versions, shorter versions etc etc...

Don't forget a good fibreglass handled maul/splitter. This gives good weight as a hitting implement and also the versatility of an axe/sledgehammer without having to carry both.

Just a quick note to remind everyone before they make forceable entry to a door(most firies dream of it)try the door first to see if its open,or the side door as one very embarrased MFS forgot to do, hasn't lived it down yet! :-D

last time i rang FARA and asked for a quote on a halligan it was $500.  Didnt ask which type but after reading here i presume it was the pro bar.

Thats disgustingly ridiculous, but I guess thats what happens when you have a reasonable stranglehold on the market. Shop around, ring around, go online, you should be able to find a much better price.

I believe the Probar Halligan we bought from FARA was around the mid $400 mark.

RescueHazmat

As numbers said.. You could probably get them sent over from the states for less than $500..

Cameron Yelland

roughly how much would a paratech halligan/hooligan cost?

We received a grant to buy a halligan roughly $500.  Finally received the tool today only to find out it is a paratech.

Im guessing we have been ripped off but where along the line?

Where did you buy it from? What did you specifically order?

If you order as per standard CFS Urban/Rural appliance stowage, you'll get the Hooligan with cutting claw.

Paratech only make Hooligan Tools, you need to look at other manufacturers for a Halligan.

Thats about right for the small Holligan tool, as Numbers said if its Paratech its not a Halligan.
Pity its not what you want though.

I was quoted for a halligan when i was putting the grant proposal together but i wasnt part of the ordering process unfortunately....

Will need to chase down the people who ordered it.

Send it back, get a refund as its not what you ordered. If you're paying more than $500 for a standard Halligan, without straps/grips then you're getting ripped off.
