There area number of different felling courses you can do, the will give you qualifications to fell trees of certain sizes, ie 300mm, 800mm etc. Felling is a something that needs to be taken very seriously its a filtered dangerous job if your not sure what your doing. A course will only teach you so much, you need to put the skills into practice in different situations to become really competent at it.

jasec how much tree felling have you done? (more out of interest)

Felling trees in amongst houses is a very difficult process however free felling when there is little on no assets other than yourself  is a much simpler proscess and doesn't take much more than a confident person with a chain saw and a bit of common sense.

This is why people need to do chainsaw courses, & tree falling courses...so they realise just how dangerous dropping a standing tree can be...

A lot more is required to drop a tree than a bit of common sense & a chainsaw - even if it is just the tree, with nothing else around it,  (who has a suitably qualified & expereinced & insured tree faller within the brigade)

There are three types of people in the world.  Those that watch things happen, those who make things happen, and those who wonder what happened.

I did s/loads when i was with national sparks, it is a simple process to do it in a open area when you get it right, if you hang one up or it drops in the wrong direction your in a whole lotta strife.
