Hey heres a thought... why don't CFS refurbish a couple (3 or 4) of the older units and send them over to KI and have them on standby, so all we need to do is organise and send over crews to man the units (be it that they are older ones) but that way they can hit the ground running, and do what we do best. This would also help in the decision making process as to where the next big fire might be here on the main land and try and not deplete that groups resource's..... any thoughts?

P.S. and yes I know we will end up sending appliances anyway, but this could be a good way of trying to contain the fire as quick as possible in the eairly parts of the fire by getting crews over there ASAP (by air) to start working.

Zippy

there are already plans are to have 10-12 appliances there in storage...any news on this btw?

What about the adelaide plains\lower mid north & yorke penninsula, no tankers in these areas at all & very much needed.

rescue5271

Those appliances are not that old and have not done many KM's.I think they where rear entry???

Gilbert Group has got a tanker, im not sure PIP may be able to shed some light but I'm pretty sure this was a joint purchase between Rhynie and Riverton thus the call sign "Riverton-Rhynie Tanker". Tankers are scant thats for sure.

Sarge

Yes & while they would be the closest tanker they are still to far for some of the adelaide plains\Lower mid north

Pipster

The Chassis is ex Ironbank.....but not sure of the funding arrangements for it..

the funding for tanker is made up of money raised from compenys, farmer, and the local people around the gilbert vally every year people pay to have there names on the tanker and in doing so. money raised go's towards the tanker. the last tanker the group had was falling apart the the diff was shot  the chasie on  one side was all rusty  and the cab was full of rust  and trying to get parts was hard to find the old tanker was an old dodge

the old tanker was knowen as rhynie tanker and when the new one was bulit  they just kept the name as it was  but tanker is some times cerwed by members of the riverton cfs plus bulk of the work done when the tanker was being bulit was done in riverton as well
