2007 Royal Adelaide Show - Registration of Interest
« on: August 10, 2007, 10:25:34 AM »
Registrations of Interest are now being sought for anyone who is keen to be involved in this years Royal Show. Due to the Royal Adelaide Shows two year limit on main arena demonstrations, we are going back to a static display.

See below for more information.

Cheers

Registration of Interest

It’s show time! The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) has had a long standing involvement with the Royal Adelaide Show held annually at the Wayville Showgrounds.

Over the past two years CFS has been lucky enough to have a demonstration in the main arena, ‘Fifteen Minutes of Flame’ proved to be a huge success for CFS with a high level of participation from volunteers.

To ensure the main arena demonstrations stay fresh, the Royal Adelaide Show have a two year limit on performances, for this reason the CFS will be going back to a static display to be manned by volunteers and staff this year.

Volunteers have always been an integral part of the success of our Royal Show involvement.

This year the Royal Show will be held from 7 – 15 September and registrations of interest are being sought from volunteers who are keen to participate.

The static display will be designed around our Fire Danger Season campaign of ‘Bushfire Ready’.

We are looking for volunteers who enjoy speaking and interacting with the general public and can point them in the right direction to get information.

As a show volunteer, you will be provided with:
·   CFS Green Polo Shirt to wear at the show, while on the stand and keep as a memento;
·   CFS Green Hat;
·   CFS Stubby Holder;
·   4 entry tickets – One for your entry on the day you attend the stand; and
·   Meal vouchers.

Transport to and from Wayville Showgrounds will be your own responsibility, please try to use group vehicles where possible, no on site parking is available.

Level 1 PPC is optional, if you do decide to bring it please ensure that it is clean and in good condition.

To register your interest by the end of August please contact CFS Public Affairs:
Email: publicaffairs@cfs.org.au
Fax: (08) 8462 4234
Post: GPO Box 2468, Adelaide SA 5001

Your registration of interest needs to include the following details:
·   Name and return contact details (including phone number, email and postal address)
·   CFS Brigade
·   Number of years as a CFS Volunteer
·   Polo Shirt Size XS (100cm), S(105), M(110), L(115), XL(120), XXL(125), XXXL(130) to 8XL(155)
·   Advice on times available

The stand will be open from 9am to 7pm and shifts will be in five hour blocks (9am – 2pm or 2pm – 7pm) every day. You will need to be able to commit to at least one full shift.

For further enquiries please contact either Heidi Geytenbeek or Melanie Hunter on (08) 8463 4206.

I delivered some equipment to the SES display & ops tent. This is north of the arena near the show rides.

Noticed the CFS display tent on the western edge of the arena area with a new 34(something) truck parked beside it.

My personal opinion only.

What the deal with the two year limit on main arena things? Isn't it worth keeping things running if the crowd wants to see them? I always looked forward to the Holden Precision Driving Team, for many years running  :-) And I'm sure the freestyle motorcross stuff has been on for more than two years?

Was there good feedback about the CFS main arena display? Personall;y I don't think you could see an awful lot. And would it be the same if we couldn't get Mr Ragless on the mic? Or is this the real reason it wasn't run this year - a lack of suitable MC's? Can I think of any more controversial questions? ....Um,... no that's it  :-D

The royal show people only offered CFS the spot for 2 years, nothing to do with MCs.

Not running a disply in the main arena was a Royal Show decision - nothing to do with CFS (and that was known by the organisers when we did the Main Arena demo two years ago....)

It'll be back in 2009....   :-)
