New Light Rural vehicles

Reading the last thread concerning new Nissen Logistics vehicles reminded me of something i heard a little while ago, and that is that the CFS were purchasing a number of new Toyota Landcruisers to be used as Light Rural appliances. This model comes with a new V8 turbo diesel.  Has anyone else heard anything similar? Will they be built to a standard design e.g. NSWRFS Cat 9 ? or, are they being offered to brigades as a cheaper 14 replacement, rather than building up more dual cab canters.

I have HEARD (nothing is concrete fact!) that around 70(?) of the new landcruiser LC70 vehicles had been purchased. Interesting to see how and where these go...

Wow, 70 I hadn't actually heard what number that they had bought. You would think then that they would all be set up the same. From what I've seen, all existing LR type vehicles are all very different from the next, having been brigade owned.

Victor group, monash, eastern districs,??? all have one.

I believe the one in victor group came from quorn as they had one but now have a canter so must have been a bit inadequate for them.

The LR are defined as generally a single cab, with 500 litres or less water on it.

Previously these sorts of vehicles were brigade owned (and often brigade built.)   CFS haven't been building too many of these, but as the current ones get old, there is certainly a need to build new ones.  (Various fires in the last two or three years have really shown how much the small appliances are needed in certain areas)

While I don't know what CFS are going to buy, but 70 may not be an extreme number - if you take it over 5 years...after all, CFS is replacing other appliances (eg 34's) at about 15 a year....75 over five years.....

The other thing i could think of explaining the massive number is if it was Fleet SA buying the cars... then they would be for CFS, DEH, etc.

The large number would make sense if they were purchased through Fleet SA , but are they all being built up to a set standard ? and if so where are they getting done? I would think given OHS Regs, that they would need to all be identical.

I did hear that moores are doing all light tankers and up to the 14 units and the rest as gone to QLD.....

Contract for the next batch of 34's has gone to Varley in NSW on Isuzu Chassis not QLD.

The new look CFA tanker with access from the cabin into the working deck looks the way to go,no get out of cabin up a step or two just walk out the door onto the deck....

I think the new batch of LRT'S would be best suited for brigades who have really low call out rates such as Kalangadoo  :-)

Robert dream on you guys will never get one.I can see a need for brigade's along the coast that need these to get into areas.Beachport/robe/kingston and one in port mac group and if the need arises may be one at cape jaffa if they ever open a station there.
