channel 7 and 9 news just said it was a pesticide on the large slippery dip that got onto some children from the Barrossa who were there for a routine excursion.

The pesticide was Nemacur 400. Police are treating it as a Major Crime.

It really makes you think what do these sick unit's get out of doing something like that. Specially to kids as they are the most innocent out of all of us.

I'd like to catch them before handing them over to the police and give them an absolute flogging! Then sorry officer i think he fell over several times! :evil:

Are we so sure it is malicious?   It certainly hasn't been declared a "major crime" - just some talk from somewhere that it is being investigated as a crime.

I don't know much about what went on - and I have no inside info on it, BUT some considerations:

Was it someone who maliciously tipped out some form of poison onto play equipment?  (And stories in the media are quite confusing  - supposedly an organophosphate, used as an insecticide.  Then reports that it was a herbicide - two very different chemicals )

Did someone discard a drum of something (whether or not true to label), and a kid find it & tip it out, having no idea of what it might be, or the consequences...

Was someone spraying legitimately ( I understand there was a spider / insect probelm on the playground equipment, and the equipment MAY have been sprayed to kill of the bugs at some time - but this may not have occurred either.)

Did one of the children get so excited about being on a school camp, suffer some sort of asthma attack, and around the same time, someone noticed a discarded drum, and put 2 & 2 together, and got a major chemical contamination, when there was none


As I said, I have no inside info - just what has come across on the news, (and that is always true   :evil:   )  and a few pager messages (which really didn't give alot of info) - but it would appear we are all ready to believe everything that has come out in the media, when the whole thing may just be people getting way too excited.  Or it might be true. 

Hopefully, time will tell, and the real truth will come out

Police said on the news it was petrol??? I am sure it does not taek 24 hors to come up with petrol,surely it can be tested and a finding done  with in a faster time......

Has anyone you know ever had reactions to petrol? (i'm sure it happens but i have come in contact with it heaps and nothing happens)

well 9 news said it was thought to be pesticide as a can labeled with that was found near by. now we all know that in a farm anything can be used to carry petrol

I thought all SAMFS fire fighters were Hazmat trained and all their GP Pumpers carry basic Hazmat stowage?

I think what 24P means is that it is CFS area, yet not one Cfs Hazmat brigade was included in the initial response. Even though it was responded as a Hazmat Incident.
