What does everyone see as the future of the SACFS.
Practice Doesn't Make Perfect....... Perfect Practice Makes Perfect..

That's pretty broad is't it? What do you mean - what aspect?

Crystal ball says there will be a massive conflagration to deal with, communities whinging about not enough fuel reduction burning, and communities whinging about risks of out of control fuel reduction burns

I agree with cam,the writting is on the wall for one fire service and I know that we will try and hold on to what we have but I feel this will not be our choice but the governments...

I forsee a SAFECOM entity which combines all existing administration functions (including OH&S, publicity, training, capital expenditure, SACAD, etc) with small operational functions which deal with the incident response.

I believe other emergency volunteer organisations could be part of SAFECOM (like Sea Rescue, Volunteer Coast Guard, etc are now via the Volunteer Marine Rescue).

I am not sure if they will be able to combine the three existing operational functions into the one entity. But this I believe will all depend on how volunteers accept the changes over the next few years.

Look at the current model in Western Australia and Queensland.

Intresting point Bajadas?

Would the SES & CFS/MFS merge?

Put it this way - I wouldnt wanna be doing the SES vollies jobs (except RCR) and they probaly dont wanna be doing mine.  But i guess there is nothing wrong with SES vollies joining the SA Fire & Rescue Service (SAFRS) to continue their current jobs?

Or maybe we pass all tree jobs onto the council and anything deemed a rescue is handled by the fire service?

well as long as there is a vollenteer fire service i'm happy.

Camo: wouldn't it be when yo join the SAFRS you would just tell the captain that you are joining to do traditionally SES jobs and then only go to to those when the pager goes off?

with the way that the newer generations are being brought up and evolving... i cant imagine that there will be too many people vollunteering, so who really knows what will happen...

also... perhaps the SAFES (SA Fire and Emergency Service), providing all services that MFS, CFS & SES currently do... (yes including tree jobs lol)

Maybe the only stations will be ones in towns and will be paid because no one will be willing to volunteer?

I think we're likely to have a combined SES/CFS/MFS service (SAFES, SAFRS, whatever) that will be paid, and you'll be going to tree downs whether you like it or not. (That's if you can get a job with them :P)

No more to the point of it would take a long time to get to remote areas therefore there is no need for CFB only overhaul as the house would be gutted before anyone arrived.

But im sure you knew what she was talking about anyway.

Indeedy Camo. I wasn't thinking about MFS, as they are purely urban so they will only ever expand as populations and cities continue to grow. It's CFS that will have the opportunity to save money on training overhaul only   :-)
